Diary of a Young Girl

Anne Frank represents people in hiding during the Halocaust. Her family was a jewish family who was living normally until Hitler took over. Annes family left Germany to go to the Netherlands during WW2 because of the risk of being prosecuted by the Nazis. Later then, Germany invades the Netherlands which forced their family into hiding. They then moved into the a secret Annex of their friends house that was hidden behind a book case. The family then has to live in silecne for the majority of the day because of the risk of being found by Nazis. Anne frequently writes about her feeling of lonelyness and isolation, she is starting to notice how her relationship between her family is crumbiling and how she is being critizised by the owners of the house. Throughout the story, the family makes estimates of when the war will be over and when they will be able to come out of hiding but they realize that there is no way to predict what Hitler will do.
Throughout the story she questions why the Jews are being Persecuted by the Nazis and is questioning if the problem will ever end. Her family has to deal with everyday struggles of having the lack of food and having to be quiet for multiple hours of the day, the family also has to deal with the owners of the house that get more and more tired of them living inside their house everyday. Throughout the two years of them being in hiding, they see how much the Netherlands were destroyed by the Germans, Annes entries describe the horrors of the war and how it Affected the people who lived there. Although Anne still considers her being German, she feels that the Netherlands is her home and is where she feels like she is most home because of seeing the terrors of the Germans and how the Netherlands couldn't really defend themselves much at all.
At the end of the story it is going on like most days of the story until the one of the pages is left blank which is when her family gets found by the Nazis. Her family was not ready or did not expect the Nazis finding them at all. Her diary represents families in hiding during WW2 and is one of the most popular books in the world.

A Fierce Green Fire Summary (Earth Day)

In the movie "A Fierce Green Fire" it shows the change of the environment from the 1950's to now. The biggest point of the movie was showing how before all of the health and safety regulations the world was a more unhealthy and unsafe place. The movie shows how much pollution was going up into the air which was creating a huge amount of smog and how the government really wasn't doing much to regulate it until President Nixon signed agreements to keep national parks, create smog regulations, and save endangered species. The movie focused on the people of the Greenpeace group who were trying to save whales and other marine life, it showed that a small group can turn into a big organization in no time by publicity and a very bold statement. The Greenpeace group has succeded in stopping whaling in many countries and has saved the life of many whales. The main point in the movie was to show the progress on us protecting the environment and showing the effects on global warming.

NORAD

NORAD is the North American Aerospace Defense Command  that was created in 1957 to provide a air defense system for North America.  NORAD was created to protect the U.S. and Canada during the Cold War from any nuclear threats from the Soviet Union.  NORAD is still in operation and its main headquarters is at Peterson Air Force Base near Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The reason for NORAD was to protect North America from nuclear missles and bombs during the cold war. It was proposed by  Joint Canada - U.S. Military Group in 1956 and was accepted by the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff in 1957.NORAD was created during a time when the Soviet Union was creating many dangerous nuclear weapons that the U.S. have never heard of or didn't know about, so just to be safe, the U.S. approved the idea of creating an air defense system that protected the U.S. and Canada from nuclear weapons and air strikes. The Government thought NORAD was a good idea because it gives people a warning before a bomb/missle actually hits the U.S. or Canada.
Although the NORAD never has prevented us from ever being bombed, it still kept the U.S. safe during cold war and many other occasions. The Systems of NORAD creates a warning if a nuclear bomb/missles come into site near North America. The Defense system will also launch nuclear defense missles if any nuclear weapons show up on the radar/sensors. The system will also set off a alarm to warn the public to get to shelter if we were ever being bombed or attacked.
There are three main NORAD regions which are Alaska, Canada, and The Continental United States.
The Alaska Region NORAD is active 24 hours and 7 days a week which is capable to detect and warn of any threat that comes into the airspace. The main headquarters is located at the Elmendorf Air Force Base. The Canadian Region NORAD is responsible to detect any threats in the Canadian Airspace. The two main headquarters in Canada are located at the Canadian Force Base Winnipeg and at the Canadian Force Base in North Bay Ontario.  The United States Region  is responsible to detect any threats inside the Continental U.S. Airspace. its response system headquarters is located at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida.
NORAD is one of the only positive things that came out of the Cold War and it has kept the U.S. safe from ever being bombed or attacked from the air.
Fun Fact: NORAD is used to track santa each year.

Script

Ryan: Now to sports, it is May 1st 1924 and The New York Yankees are playing against the Detroit Tigers in the newly built yankee stadium. The Yankees are ahead 4-1 and the game is about to end. It was one of the best games we have seen played by Babe Ruth. Ruth scored 3 of those 4 points and a home run was hit by Everett Scott. The yankees have had a very great season and one of the main reasons why is because of Babe Ruth. After 40 games he has already had 14 home runs! If he keeps this rate going, he will have over 40 home runs by the end of the season. Although the season is only a quarter of the way through, i believe that the yankees will be a part of the world series this year. The yankees next game will be on May 4th playing the Boston Redsox in the Yankees Stadium.

Enola Gay

Enola Gay was a boeing b-29 Superfortress bomber flown by Paul Tibbets during WW2. Enola Gay was picked out by Paul Tibbets in May 1945 while it was still on the assembly line. The plane is most famous for dropping the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima and being the first plane to drop an atomic bomb. Right before the Hiroshima mission began Tibbets named the plane Enola Gay after his mom Enola Gay Tibbets, "Enola Gay" was later painted on the nose of the plane right before he took off for the Hiroshima mission. The plane flew from Titian to Hiroshima (a six hour flight) on August 6 1945 planning to drop the bomb on Hiroshima and having Kokura and Nagasaki as backup plans. The bombing went just as planned and dropped the bomb from 31,000 ft on Hiroshima at 8:15. After, Paul Tibbets flew back to the base in Tinian and ended the flight safely. Around 75,000 people were killed by the bomb while 70,000 were injured and 70% of Hiroshimas buildings were completely destroyed. Enola Gay also participated in the bombing of Nagasaki following the bombing of Hiroshima. Although Enola and Paul didn't carry the bomb on the mission, he was the weather rennisance for the mission and first saw that it was not safe to bomb Kokura and insisted to wait until the smoke from the bombing of Yawata cleared out. Paul Tibbets passed away on November 1st, 2007 at the age of 92. Enola Gay restoration started in 1984 and was fully completed in 200. Enola Gay is currently in Washington Dulles International  Airport in the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center.
